Haha.
Hahaha.
Hahahaha.
I’m going to start off this post with laughter, because sometimes life is funny. I mean, even when life isn’t funny, I believe you should still be able to laugh. The human condition itself is so messed up that I can’t help but laugh. Sometimes I even laugh at myself when I’m stuck in my depressive hole because I feel so damn sorry for myself. But hey, I’m the kind of person that laughs along with PewDiePie so perhaps there’s not much to say about my sense of humour…
But anyway, I’m laughing today because Mattias and I made it on the news. I don’t know how to feel, really. It’s just overwhelming. At first, I was excited, then I became incredibly anxious and now I just think the whole debacle is hilarious.

I’m not one to gloat and I try to force myself to stay humble (my psychologist said that I’m very monotonous whenever I tell her about any of my accomplishments, like I wave them off like it’s nothing… I’m not sure if it’s because I’m trying to appear humble or because I’m actually unimpressed with my accomplishments… whatever it is, I’m working on it).
BUT GUYS.
MATTIAS AND I ARE ON THE NEWS.
HOW INSANE IS THAT?!
And not just normal news. We’re on the news around the world – from the UK, Turkey, Spain, Russia, Belarus, Peru, Switzerland, Thailand, China, Vietnam… strangely nothing from Sweden or Australia as of yet. Like, my mind is actually blown.
I think the crazy thing that I can’t wrap my head around is that Mattias and I have been living our lives for the past 5 years and only now has it attracted so much attention. The media is basically reporting on a story that’s years old!
Also, the headlines! I LAUGHED SO MUCH AT THE HEADLINES!!!
• GIRL TRACKS DOWN GUY ON TWITTER, FINDS TRUE LOVE AND TRAVELS THE WORLD
• TWO TEENAGERS FALL IN LOVE, TRAVELLED THE WORLD AFTER MEETING ONLINE
• TEENAGERS FALL IN LOVE AND TRAVEL THE WORLD AFTER A SINGLE TWEET … “WELL THIS DEVELOPED QUICKLY…”
I don’t know about you guys, but when I think of a teenager I think of a sixteen-year-old. When I tweeted Mattias, I was 20, but I guess ‘teenagers’ falling in love is a more interesting story. Also, we didn’t exactly travel the world… we travelled around Europe. Also, “true love”… ugh, barf. It’s as though they assumed we fell head-over-heels for each other from that first tweet, rather than what most relationships go through – you know, actually getting to know each other. Also, some of the articles blatantly made stuff up along the way which is even more hilarious. I saw a Chinese article that my mum translated for me which said I was depressed because of my family and my studies?!
Anyway, I’m not hating. I’m actually loving it. It’s so interesting to see how different media outlets pick up a story and run with the wind with it. If anything, I’m now much more appreciative of journalists and media outlets that contact me asking for an interview, rather than just writing up a story based on assumptions. Also, I’m grateful to the media outlets that don’t steal my photos but rather, embed my Instagram posts or hmm, I don’t know… actually ask me for permission.
Since the original Daily Mail article was published, I’ve sat for 3 other interviews for different newspapers and magazines. None of these have been published yet but I’ll keep you updated. I’m excited for these articles to be published because I know there will be a different take on them – I gave them more context, provided them with original photos and went more in depth into our story. I feel like all the other articles that have been published without sitting for an interview have been copy-paste articles but re-worded.
Despite it all, it’s been fun. I feel like it’s been a little over-sensationalised but that’s to be expected.
Anyway, I’ll leave some links of the articles I’ve seen so far. I’ve left out some because their webpages look super dodge.

The First Encounter
It was 3am, 17th of October 2012. I had insomniac eyes, a wounded heart and my laptop at my disposal. It was 15 days after my 20th birthday; 15 days after the sickening spiral of depression that sunk me into a fit of existential anxiety. Read more…
Finding Love Online: Romanticising LDR’S
The internet is a bittersweet place. It allows us to connect with each other in ways that under any other pre-internet circumstance would not have existed. I have myself a bunch of ‘internet friends’, or ‘internet acquaintances’- familiar faces and familiar usernames that pop up every time I post a tweet, or update my status or share nostalgic images on Instagram.
