September is now upon us which means that in less than 3 months, I will be seeing Mattias again! The countdown truly begins until I can put my index finger in inappropriate places… like his eye socket. What?
August, for me, was a crazy busy month and it sure looks like it wont be slowing down anytime soon. With my university schedule, interning, volunteering, side work and keeping up with my YouTube channel and blog, I haven’t really had time to do nothing… which in itself is pretty sweet because it means I don’t have time to be down in the dumps.
Anyway, without much ado, here is my Best of August 2015. Hope you enjoy! 🙂
1. Kikki.K Stockholm Collection – Elsa Shoulder Bag
When Kikki.K first released their Stockholm collection a few years back, I was absolutely awe-strucked by the simplistic beauty but high functionality of their handbags. But of course, that’s to be expected considering their brand is primarily focused on Swedish design. After a few years of fawning over the collection, I finally decided to go ahead and commit to the purchase.
I bought the larger handbag of the collection– the Elsa Shoulder Bag. The functionality of it means that it’s perfect for those of you who are working. It has a separate compartment for your 13″ laptop, spaces to place your pens and a keychain to hook your keys on.
The only thing that would give the Elsa Shoulder Bag an extra edge and make it THE PERFECT BAG is if it came with an additional strap, just like it’s smaller counterpart– the Isabelle bag. Oh well! I still love it and it’s affordable in comparison to your high end designer brands that– let’s be honest, are more stylish than they are functional.
2. Clarisonic Mia 2 – Facial Cleansing System
In keeping up with my New Year’s Resolution of taking better care of my skin, I decided I would invest in one of those fancy facial cleansing systems. Clarisonic is a very popular option and you can hardly enter a beauty store without having a throng of these on display. I purchased the Clarisonic Mia 2 which comes with dual speeds and after almost three months of using it, I can feel a noticeable difference in the smoothness of my skin.
It’s super easy and efficient to use, especially with the prompted timer that ensures that you get your face deeply cleansed in under a minute! It’s a miracle, seriously. I also love that it’s waterproof and the charger is magnetic so you don’t have to worry about electrocuting yourself… that would be absolutely horrendous, wouldn’t it?
3. Inika Pure Primer
I’m in the process of switching out my old makeup products with new organic brands and I stumbled upon this Australian brand called Inika. It’s not a cheap brand and I find that high prices are unfortunately a re-occurring factor when you’re searching for ecological and sustainable products. I blame capitalism, but I won’t go into that discussion today.
Inika produces certified organic beauty products and I went ahead and (hesitantly) purchased their pure primer. I say hesitantly because of the price. After being so used to buying cheap drugstore makeup brands, I couldn’t fathom why I was paying such a high price for something that I believe should be affordable for the masses. Still, I think it’s worth it because I feel a lot better knowing that I’m putting organic products on my face and a little of this primer really does go a long way.
There’s a lemony scent to the formula and I’ve read some reviews where people didn’t really like the smell, but I don’t mind it at all. It definitely does the job it’s intended to do and provides a nice base for the application of my foundation!
4. Inika Perfection Concealer
So I also went and bought Inika’s Perfection Concealer. Again, pricey in comparison to your drugstore makeup brands but a little of this baby goes a long way and I’ve really enjoyed using it.
If you’re into ecological makeup brands, I would recommend giving Inika a go.
5. Sukin Calming Night Cream
The Sukin Calming Night Cream has been such a lovely addition to my nightly skincare routine lately. What I love about it is that it’s 100% vegan and paraben free so I’m assured that only good ingredients are going onto my skin. It’s also really affordable too so that’s another major tick for me!
The ingredients contain cucumber, chamomile and rose hip which are great for those who suffer from anxiety or nervous tension.
6. Tattoo Fixers
One word: obsessed. I saw episode one of Tattoo Fixers in my recommended list on YouTube and I’m so glad I clicked it because this is my current favourite show. I binge watched all the episodes and I’m not even that into tattoo culture. There’s just something so fulfilling about seeing other people’s mistakes permanently etched into their skin and how talented artists manage to help cover them up with something visually stunning.
I have a major girl crush on the female tattoo artist, Lou. Every time she’s on the screen I just squee in delight– she is so adorable and I just want to be her friend. I want to be all their friends. Ugh. Such attractive people, I can’t even deal. You will definitely see a lot of penises and tattoos of penises on this show, so if you’re not too phased with nudity and you’re into tattoos, you’ll love this show. Heck, you don’t even have to be into tattoos and you’ll still love it.
Anyway, that pretty much sums up my Best of August 2015! Spring has sprung in Australia and I’m super excited for things to come. Some days I just look at the sky and realise how wonderful life is, if only you have the right perspective.
I’d love to know what some of your favourite things of August were, please feel free to tell me in the comments!
Have a wonderful spring (or autumn) wherever you may be! 🙂
